How the VRML Models were made

Method 1

• CT Scans of the original bone pelves in the collection have been produced at the Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, UK.
• The medical images are segmented using IBM TOSCA (Tool for Segmentation, Correlation, and Analysys)





 
• Stack of Contours from TOSCA





 
• Triangulate using INRIA's NUAGES software. Produces VRML v1 file format.
• Convert VRML v1 into VRML v2.
• Apply polygon reduction

Method 2

• Laser Scans of the pelvis model were taken using a Soisic 2000 scanner at the Centre for Virtual Environments, University of Salford
• The pelvis was suspended from the ceiling
• Six scans were required from viewpoints surrounding the pelvis
 

 
• The range data from the 3D Scans was reconstructed in the 3DIPOS software that is supplied with the Soisic Scanner.


 

• The reconstructed model was then exported in VRML format.
• Polygon reduction was applied.
